How to Fix Lagging Mouse Movement in AutoCAD
This tip may not apply to everyone, but if it applys to you,I know this is going to make your day. Many useres have complained about their mouse having a delay in AutoCAD. This is not only very frustrating, but it also kills productivity. If you are using Windows Vista, here s a solution that may fix your problem (you will need to be logged in with ADMINISTRATOR privileges:
- Click your START Button and then right click on COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES
- On the left side of the dialog box, under TASKS, select ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS (you will probably have to approve permission)
- Click the SETTINGS button located under the PERFORMANCE heading (located in the Advanced Tab)
- Under the VISUAL EFFECTS tab, select CUSTOM and then UNCHECK Enable Desktop Composition and select APPLY
That should do it. If it doesn t fix the problem, or if you notice other problems, you can always go back the the Visual Effects Tab and select Let Windows choose what s best for my computer to set it back to the default.
I know this was a answer to prayer for me. I hope it helps you also.

Something similar happened to me using XP with AutoCAD 2008, 2009 2010 where the mouse stutters across the screen, commands or coordinates entered are in the wrong order or not appearing and the reason I d simply undocked the command line to gain screen space. Re-docking the command line and the problem was solved! Took a while to realize the problem but it really was that simple.

I have been experiencing “mouse lag” when I select objects in AutoCAD MEP 2009. When I select objects, the cursor will freeze for a moment or three as if it is counting the objects one at a time. It seems that the more I select, the longer it takes for the cursor to “catch up” and move again. I tried your tip, but I didn’t have the “Enable Desktop Composition” option. I have Windows XP Professional x64 edition. Any ideas? Thank you.
It’s been so long since I’ve used XP. Basically what we are doing is turning off some of the special effects windows likes to add to dialog boxes and such. I’m sure there is a way to do that in XP, but I have not personally experimented with it.
Just checked in after a while and saw this. I used to have the same problem while using AutoCAD Architecture. AutoCAD is a memory hog and I used to have to exit and open Architecture again till I found FREE MEMORY II (freeware). It clears the cache and frees up RAM. You have to be careful though, it also clears your trash and TMP which means your autoback backup files. Autodesk seems to have solved this with 2013 though, sees MUCH smoother.
I tried this, and unfortunatelly it did not work for me I tried other things and found that a large xref file was what was making my system lagg. I exploded the xref once, and that took care of the problem.
Thanks though, I see this did help others
